Overview of Shopify Payments
Shopify Payments is the native card processing product for Shopify stores. Rates are set within Shopify plans, with lower percentages on higher-tier plans, and using a third-party gateway adds a further per-transaction fee.
Reviewing a Shopify Payments account usually means checking whether your plan tier, effective rate and third-party payment costs are aligned - and whether an external provider would be materially cheaper at your volume.
Common fees businesses should check
Set by Shopify plan tier, with separate online and in-person rates.
Additional per-transaction fee if you use a non-Shopify payment provider.
Applied to cross-border transactions.
Fixed fees per raised dispute.
Want us to check these fees on your Shopify Payments statement?
Start free reviewContract terms and considerations
- No separate merchant contract - use is governed by Shopify's terms of service.
- Plan changes take effect at the next billing cycle.
Exit fees and early termination
- No early termination fee - you can move to a different processor at any time.
- Moving off Shopify Payments will trigger the third-party gateway fee on remaining plan tiers.
We never guarantee to pay your exit fees or that you can be released from a contract. Any support with exit costs is dependent on selected alternative providers, is subject to approval and is only considered when switching makes clear financial sense.
Common reasons businesses request a review
- Volume has grown and Shopify's tiered rates may no longer be the cheapest option.
- You want to benchmark Shopify's blended rate against Interchange Plus alternatives.
- You use multi-currency selling and want to check FX costs.
Frequently asked questions
Will reviewing my Shopify Payments statement contact Shopify Payments?
No. We never contact your current provider without your written permission. The review is private and entirely for your information.
Do I have to leave Shopify Payments after the review?
Not at all. Many reviews end with the business staying on a renegotiated rate, or with confirmation that the existing setup is reasonable. You are under no obligation to switch.
How long does a Shopify Payments statement review take?
Most reviews are returned within a few working days once we have a recent monthly statement.
What does the review actually check?
Transaction rates, terminal rental, PCI fees, authorisation fees, monthly minimums, settlement timings, contract length, exit fees and any hidden extras specific to your account.
